Our Story Originally founded in 1995 as Candlewood Cabins, Anaway Place was created by Norbert and Susan Calnin. What began as a few thoughtfully placed cabins grew into a beloved destination for travelers seeking peace and inspiration in the Driftless landscape. In 2021, Chris and Lyndsay discovered the Meadow House and instantly fell in love—not only with the property but with the vision of what it could continue to become. Over time, they partnered with their friend Lisa, and in June 2024 the Calnins entrusted the legacy of Candlewood to this trio, collectively known as Hearth & Green. Unplug, Restore, Reconnect In the early days, “unplugging” at Anaway was automatic—there was no Wi-Fi, and cell service was scarce. Today, disconnecting requires intention, but the rewards are greater. We encourage guests to view time offline as an act of self-care and wellness travel. While each of our distinct cabins in Wisconsin’s Driftless Region has its own unique character, every stay is designed with the comforts of home. Expect comfy beds with high-quality linens, thoughtfully designed living areas with panoramic views, and either a full kitchen or kitchenette stocked with cookware and dishes.
